Foiled by the Feeder
If you have a horse that sees his feed bowl as a toy, you know the exasperation of watching him dump his grain ration in the dirt. And you may worry that he’s ingesting sand and dirt with his dinner.
So, how do you foil a bowl-bumper? We asked Kimberly Adams of Sugar Land, Texas to test this no-tip feeder, the “Mowl Horse Feeder” from Equine Originals. Here’s what she said:
“My 9-year-old black-and-white Paint mare, Stormy, is notorious for dumping her feed bowl, so she ends up eating her grain out of the dirt. This feeder has been great. She can’t tip it over because she stands with her front feet on the mat the bowl is attached to. She (and other horses in the pasture) tried to bump it, and flit it, but she finally gave up, and her feed stays in the feeder.”
